Dear DuCap supporters
Your DuCAP staff recently traveled to Springfield to advocate for the need to continue funding programs like Choices and Teens and Action. The new governor has proposed a budget with a 15% cut in funding for our programs and other youth programs throughout Illinois. This would mean that DuCAP would have to close 1 out of 5 programs. Combined with other area projects across the state, thousands of youth would no longer receive the assistance they need. For youth this means fewer youth programs in their neighborhoods and fewer out of school activities that keep youth safe and healthy.
DuCAP cares about the youth in our community and helping them make more positive choices in their lives. We know you do too.
Will you please help us continue to help your children? Take action now by reminding your Senator, State Representative, and Governor Quinn that youth programs are a vital part of the success of Illinois children. Preventative programs like those offered through DuCAP help hundreds of children and families. Investing in Illinois youth and your child is important and we need to let the people who control the funding know that not investing in our kids is not acceptable.
Ask them to restore the funding to the DuCAP Programs in the State Budget—
“Community Services” Line , in the Governor’s Proposed State Budget, Page 7-26,
CUT: $893,500 (statewide)
“Youth Programs” Line, in the Governor’s Proposed Budget Page 7-27
CUT: $2,450,000 (Statewide)
Here's what you can do today:
Write a letter to Representative Emily McAsey, Senator AJ Wilhelmi, and Governor Pat Quinn, and mail it, or give it to your DuCAP staff to mail. (Addresses below)
Sign the DuCAP petition below.
Encourage your child to sign the DuCAP kids’ petition at your school.
Send an email or call legislators and tell them to reject the Governor's proposed budget and continue funding programs for Illinois youth.
The DuCAP staff will continue to advocate for the needs of your children, but we need your help. Your voice is important and every voice counts. Many of these politicians win by only a narrow margin and letting them know what you need as a voter in their district is important. These are our representatives, and we need to let them know what we need. It is in the best interest of our leaders in Illinois to have programs like DuCAP that help their communities!
