Support the SEGA "Ringedge" console project

To/Against/For: for SEGA to unveil it's new console this year
Number of signatures required(target): 5000

Hello everyone! Today I would like to present to you NEW evidence that SEGASammy has been working on a NEW console since early 2008 set to launch in 2010.

On January 30,2009 SEGASammy filed two new hardware trademarks:
"Ringedge" and "Ringwide".

Three trademarks popped up for use with video game software, arcade game boards, stand alone game machines and arcade game machines with built-in screens. The trademarks appear to be linked and are for "RINGWIDE," "RINGEDGE" and a logo with rings."

Now I know it may sound like it's arcade hardware only, but you'll notice that SEGA patent the hardware for sale and use in the U.S. and Europe as well. Now why would SEGA trademark arcade boards for use outside of Japan where the arcade market has been dead for years?
Here's another link to a video posted from Japan at the Arcade amusment trade show back in Feb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=423FSWYM-gM&feature=related

SEGA Sammy made a statement regaurding the development of these boards: http://www.siliconera.com/2009/02/04/sega-building-new-arcade-hardware/

In it, the specs for the RingEdge and RingWide arcade are translated as using 2008 PC techonology. SEGA also states that they are planning on offering the hardware boards to other 3rd party publishers to develop titles for and hopes to expand the new arcade line much like Naomi a decade ago which explains why Dreamcast had some many arcade perfect ports. Since no RingWide games were annouced and SEGA says that Regarding the choice of names for the boards, a statement from Sega explained "that "Ring" is meant to suggest a ring that connects users, operators and makers along with, via the internet, the rest of the world. Edge refers to cutting edge. Wide refers to a wide range, in the sense that Sega hopes the board will, through wide use by third parties, help expand the amusement industry." Which means that SEGA may be desinging a development kit for other software companies which sheds even more light on a strong possiblity of them turning the RingEdge into a home console. SEGA also says that this new hardware is both incredibly simple to program and cuts production costs down 30%. Which means SEGA could be designing a development kit that may make it easier for developers to make games for and drop the rising development costs on games which could make the new machine quite competitive allowing the price of games for it to be $40 and $50 instead of $60 and $70.

Not much else was said regaurding thier plans for RingEdge. but SEGA hoping that the "wide" use will help expand the arcade and amusement industry suggests that SEGA may be using this as a "trojan horse" for getting third party developers on thier side in hopes of being able to launch a new system soon.

I also have two patents for two controller designs for a console:
http://www.patentgenius.com/image/7488254-19.html (I know it looks like the Saturn 3D pad but the patent filing number 7,488,254 is way ahead of Sega Saturn's us patent number which is "5,371,792.)
Here's another one: http://www.patentgenius.com/image/7488254-32.html (it looks like the Genesis/Mega Drive six button pad but with added motion sensors) You need to pay close attention to these newly approved controller patents. They may look like something Saturn related but there are several new concepts including a touch screen attactment, motion sensors, arcade thumbstick, attactment among many others. If you think about it, touch screen techonology was unheard of during the Saturn days. Both controllers were approved on 2/10/2009.

Also a mysterious SEGA Sammy's inside statement from May:

http://fgnonline.webs.com/

"With the Nintendo Wii hitting retail and gaining worldwide superstardom of the likes never witnessed SEGA SAMMY once again immediately got to work on another system with orders from the boss himself Satomi-san. This system shall be a HD casual console and is designed to compete with the successor to the Wii. The design of the system FGN can officially confirm was finalised in late 2008, it's arcade variant goes by the name "RINGEDGE" the specifications of the system are as follows.

The chosen CPU is the Intel Pentium E2160 Allendale 1.8GHz Dual-Core Processor, the GPU of choice is the Shader Model 4.0 compliant 9600GSO with 384 MB GDDR3 RAM, System memory measuring 1GB DDR2-800. Other features include an onboard HD audio DSP, 32GB SSD,  DVD-9 Dual Layer, and WiFi connectivity. SEGA SAMMY plans on shipping the system with two controllers, a motion sensing remote and one which looks similar to the Saturn 3D controller. One for casual gaming the other for non-casual. To top this off SEGA SAMMY shall be using a stripped down version of Microsoft's Windows Embedded Standard 2009 for ease of development. This particular version differs from the standard version where only the DirectX functionality is included, the standard edition costs $90 per shipping device. As SEGA SAMMY's version doesn't include the non gaming features SEGA SAMMY has managed to get a hold of the OS for less than half of that cost.

SEGA SAMMY plans on launching the system in time for the holiday season of 2010 for no less than $200 and no more than $250. The company doesn't plan on publically acknowledging the project this year, thus an official announcement won't take place until 1H 2010.

Stay tuned for part 2 of our world exclusive where we shed light on SEGA SAMMY's consumer plans for the "RINGWIDE"

Dreamcast 2 I mean the "RingEdge" is coming to a retailer near you in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The blog is itself has been in question but, FGNonline insits that it's not a hoax site. And denies that this indivisual is the same one who hoaxed in 2004 claiming that SEGA was planning to release 30 titles for Xbox that stemmed from unreleased Saturn games and a sequel to Fighters Megamix. Also yet another patent just popped up: http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7512656.html Filed on March 31,2009.  Both controller patents BTW were officially approved for use this year.

I also found the link to the patents for the orginal Dreamcast console and Cosmic Smash arcade game patents and discovered something interesting. There are TWO 2008 Dreamcast and Cosmic Smash patents registered that are unrelated to the original patent for DC and the 2001 never released Dreamcast/Naomi arcade title.

"Interesting enough, I found the Ringedge patent again through the url and noticed something.

The goods and service description seems virtually intact completely unchanged from January. Since it's a trademark not a complete description, Ringedge seems to be intended for arcade use and something else not just arcade only.

Here's the Dreamcast patent renewed actaully last year:

In the newer patent the words "Flash Memory Cards and handheld pads" now appear. Both of these descriptions do not appear in the orginal patent along with the Registration number being different. This suggests that This 2007/2008 is not related to the original Dreamcast patent. Meaning that it sounds like SEGA indeed filed a patent for a "Dreamcast 2" in late 2007 and registered it last summer. That's not saying that SEGA will use the name "Dreamcast 2" it shows that SEGA will use the name for thier new system with a another name for it's sequel much like "Xbox 360" for Xbox 2, so it could become the "Dreamcast EDGE" or "Dreamcast Smash" as it's name suggest being related to the NEWER "Cosmic Smash" patent.

Here's the patent for the NEWER "Cosmic Smash" filed last spring and registered last fall this suggests that SEGA is considering using it as a Japanese moniker:

Live/Dead Indicator DEAD

Notice that not only is the wording and description competely different and the newer patent but we can clearly see that both of the Dreamcast and Cosmic Smash are dead both having been cancelled this year but there are still TWO unrelated patent trademarks filed in late 2007 and 2008. This proves that these are NEWER patent trademarks that have virtually nothing to do with the orginal trademarks and that the Dreamcast console and Cosmic Smash game patents are offficially dead.

This proves that the information that Zac Morris and FGNonline have uncovered about SEGA building an HD 256-bit casual console is in fact TRUE and that it is NOT a hoax site. The site also  claimed that Ringwide will become a handheld device as well designed to compete against DS 2 and PSP Go. Much like the the DS it will have touch screen technology.

I have also uncovered A brand NEW patent from SEGA approved just this July  for a USB flash memory card and i card game modifiation:

http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7556197.html (Just so you know it is not for arcades or for using cards to activate arcade machines This is a patent for that: http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7431297.html#show-page4

I have spend the past year of 2009 uncovering this information. Unlike the previous years there's gotta to be a reason SEGA keeps getting these patents approved and why this mysterious blog suddenly popped up with a free host and nothing to suggest that everything being reported on there is false.

As for photos there's currently none. Mostly because SEGASammy wants to keep the project completely top secret and wants to make sure nothing is leaked out to the press. But there was several private meetings at E3 this year where several 3rd party publishers were given development kits.

FGNonline was deactivated on Aug 31. The admin did try to explain what was going on at Sega Forums(that SEGASammy ordered thier host freewebs to drop them , but was greeted with hosility there. Also the plans to restart the blog are pending.

They are seeking help in are reportedly in talks with Apple and Toshiba for a marketing partnership with the project. SEGASammy needs the likes of another electronic and tech company brand name to help market the console. They've been spending the past year rebranding and repairing thier brand name. Because of this, it may cause them to postpone the console's annoucement until early 2010. I'm thinking about starting a petition so that SEGA can make thier plans public in the face of the crashing software market and declining hardware market. We need a September annoucement! Hayes said that there will be no annoucement tommorrow but he did not rule out another SEGA console noir did he state any of the company's future plans. But if I were you, I'd wait for JAMMA next week, there's going to be quite alot of stuff happening there.

Here's something else that I found over a the Dreamcast talk forum: http://i29.tinypic.com/1z330b8.jpg

This may be the Ringedge's first official IP. It also says it runs on HDDVD Rom.

Here are 9 interesting facts:

Fact #1. The mainstream arcade scene has been dead in U.S./U.K. and Canada.

Fact #2. RingEdge and RingWide have 2 ICs instead of just one. Including "Stand Alone Video Game Machines" in addition to touch screen arcade boards. Most of SEGA's current boards say arcade only.

Fact #3. Sega Sammy has been very busy with hardware patents all year long. Whereas prior they only filed and registred trademarks in 2007/2008.

Fact #4 Ringedge hasn't yet been registered but is set to be released outside of Japan under the description "Stand alone Video Game Machines".

Fact #5. SegaSammy Shuffled thier managment. Former Lucas Arts head Simon Jeffery stepped down after E3 this year even though in 2008 he denied that there was another console being made. The company has also been talking about intergration and unity wanting to unite the company.

Fact 6. Sega held a quiet closed circuit E3. Plus thier booth had a meeting room. Why would a 3rd party publisher have it's own meeting rooms? And what happened to the other multi-platform titles that were to be annouced?

Fact #7. SEGASammy has revealed very little about the Ring series lineup or what thier full plans were with the hardware and why they patented it for use outside of Japan. JAMMA and TGS will be held next month which probably will contain more details.

Fact #8. SEGASammy just made an investment in Dubai (a popluar middle eastern tourist spot for weathly people.)By opening an amusment park/arcade center there.

Fact #9 the video game console market has been declining all year long and fewer games are being released. Most software sales have been unimpressive.

Support the Ringedge. Give ground to SEGA to annouce the project now! Show them that the world is ready for a new Sega system! Tell them that if they develop a console with low cost software selling games for $40-50, that consumers will buy!
