I would like to draw your attention to a situation which is threatening the lives of many dogs and one which you can do something about to help change.
My puppy, Precious, suffers from life-threatening canine epilepsy. I belong to an organization for owners of dogs who are prone to seizures and in the last six months, two dogs in our group have died from complications.
Precious, who was rescued from a puppy mill, has suffered from seizures for most of her young life. In working with our veterinarian to try to control the frequency and severity of the episodes, we've learned that diet plays a crucial role.
One of the ingredients we have been warned to avoid is rosemary, which can trigger seizures. We started very carefully reading labels on dog and human food to make sure that ingredient was not included.
As we researched products that are safe to feed our puppy and others with canine epilepsy, we were shocked to learn that many companies make dog food which contains rosemary but that they are not required to include it on their ingredient label because it is considered a minute amount.
I am asking for your help in changing the regulations so that all ingredients included in dog food must be listed. The failure to do so threatens dogs who suffer from canine epilepsy with eating something which could bring on seizures and even death.
After some of the deadly incidents involving dog food in the last couple years, pet owners today are so much more aware of safety and would welcome this change to help them become more informed consumers.
I would appreciate any assistance you can give me in finding out who we need to work with to get laws governing labeling of dog food changed.
There are thousands of people who would be willing to become involved in a campaign to help ensure that pet food is fully labeled to ensure the health of our pets.
A little bit of rosemary may not seem like a big deal to a manufacturer but it is a matter of life or death to my 10-month-old puppy and to so many other dogs. We as informed and concerned owners want to buy quality dog food and to know exactly what is in it and would appreciate your assistance in addressing this issue. If you agree with this statement you are asked to sign this petition so we can bring it to the attention of AAFCO.

| sandi | If a company purchases products for dog and or cat food and uses said product, they do not have to list it. If they manufacture the food ingredient, they have to list it. SOOO, makes me think, food companies are purchasing ingredients, using them in their food or manufacture of cat and dog food, and do not have to list said ingredient . I come across many brands that do list rosemary Sandi | |
| Dee Mills | I'm for full disclosure on labels. My Springer developed food sensitivities in her later years, and knowing how her food was made became essential. | |
| Pat Swinton | All ingredients should be listed! Most cases they are not because alot of companies put crap in the food. If they listed the crap, no one would buy. | |
| Nancy Woodward | It should be required that every single ingredient in dog food is included on the label to help protect our pets. | |
| BARBARA HALL | I THINK ALL INGREDIANTS SHOULD BE LISTED ON THE LABEL OF THE BAG. OUR PETS ARE LIKE OUR CHILDREN .I KNOW MANY PEOPLE WHO CHECK THE INGREDIANTS TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NOTHING IN IT THAT THEIR PETS ARE ALERGIC TO. AND THE IDEA THAT THEIR PET CAN BE HARMED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT LISTED IS WRONG. I WORK AT A PET BOUTIQUE AND WE SELL FOODS. ALL OUR CUSTOMERS CHECK.SO I AM SIGNING THIS FOR EVERYTHING SHOULD BEING LISTED. | |
| Elizabeth | I think all ingredients should be on the bag as well as where the ingredients were purchased from. This way there would be a better chain of accountability. | |
| jane eagle | Beacuse of uncertainty about the ingredients used in manufactured pet foods, I make my own, and often feed raw. This is a very important issue, as pets are treasured more and more, and owners need products they can trust. | |

| Lisa Dean | My Wonderful dog is food sensitive and I have to watch everything she eats so I need to know ALL ingredients including minute ingredients. | |
| Kevin E. Townsend | I agree that every ingredient should be listed no matter how minute becuase this can lead to a life or death emergency if a dog has a problem with that ingredient. |
