If you are a Timmonsville Whirlwind or if you have any ties to Timmonsville, please read and act!
Coach Perry Stokes has been a faithful and devout teacher/coach(basketball, football, and baseball) at Timmonsville High School for over 30 years. He has also been an essential member to the development, growth, and stability of the Timmonsville community. As of June 30th 2010, he will no longer be allowed to work in these capacities. Coach Stokes is in the final year of his TERI program and as of last week he was still unsure as to whether or not he would be given the opportunity to continue coaching or teaching. It is one thing to be coaching for years but Coach Stokes has the stats to back it up. From 2000-2008, the Lady Whirlwinds have won at least 17 games each season and have never lost more than eight, compiling a 202-59 record(77% winning percentage). He also has the honor of winning the first and only state championship for the Lady Winds. He develops players from a young age and instills not only athletic skills but life skills. He can also attribute to the fact that at least 90% of all his players have graduated high school and have never been incarcerated!
On last week Coach Stokes was allowed to interview for three positions in the Timmonsville High School Athletic Department: Athletic Director, Varsity Girls Basketball, and Varsity Boys Baseball. He was accompanied in this interviewing process for Varsity Girls Basketball by the following applicants: the assistant coach Heath Stokes (who coaches
the JV girls team), Mrs. Farmer (teaches at Brockington Elementary, has never coached, and was asked to coach JV 3 years ago and declined), and one other unknown female applicant. Not to say that the other applicants would not be effective in the position but they do not have the stats or experience to compete with Coach Stokes. As of yesterday, Coach Stokes was offered the Varsity Boys Baseball position but not Varsity Girls Basketball. This makes no logical or statistical sense to anyone that is involved within the program, school, or community.
With dwindling enrollment and budget cuts in District 4, it makes sense that they not pay Coach Stokes to teach any longer while he receives retirement benefits; but to replace him as head coach of a program that has been consistent for over a decade and pay an inexperienced person to take his place appears more like personal restructuring by the
District Office rather than budget issues.
In an effort to not have the same unfounded departure come to Coach Stokes that occurred with Coach William Tate (who was also removed from his position under questionable circumstances), we need for you to sign this petition and support Coach Stokes. It is time to make some changes in Timmonsville and it starts with us. Stop complaining and do something about it!

| Miranda Odom | I think it would be a utter shame if they dont allow coach Stokes to continue coaching the Varsity Girls Basketball team. He is an all arounde wonderful man and he does his job well. As someone else sd I, too, believe that the stats speak for themselves. I can only hope that the board will do the right thing on this one!! Good luck Coach Stokes..you def have a lot of people pulling for you!!! | |
| Shaunte' Small | Coach Stokes is amazing! I can contribute much of my success to his teaching and coaching. Coach Stokes is a great example for any coach and should be allowed to continue to keep the Whirlwinds on the right path! Go Timmonsville Lady Whirlwinds! | |
| DANIEL BROWN | THE STATS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.GREAT COACH AND TEACHER. BE SMART AND KEEP HIM | |
| Brandin Hudson | Coach Stokes is a very passionate man when it comes to basketball. he asked me my whole freshman year to join the Varsity girls basketball team and just would not leave it alone. He DESERVEs this team and it has not only become a part of hislife, but a part of his history too. You cannot allow this to happen to Coach Stokes. | |
| Dawn Galloway | Timmonsville is just heading further and further down hill. The best example of that is look at graduation this past year. Awful. They keep losing good teachers and coaches then whats the point in keeping the school open. The board needs a wake up call. They wonder why most of the graduates go no further than the corner of Kandies. Its because they are taking out the people who matter. Budget the money right and stop trying to keep their pay up then things would get better. Time to shape up T-ville!! | |
| Joshua A Floyd | I guess being a stand up teacher a very good coach counts for nothing. The school board can never do anything right. | |
