Who is Senora Howard?
She is an inspirational figure to all and any who are enrolled in her Spanish classes, or who know her at all. She is a wonderful woman who tells life like it is, who isn\'t afraid to try and understand the teenage mind, and whos sarcasm and bright, curious eyes tell many stories and light up your day.
What is going on, and why was this petition created?
My understanding of the issue is very limited, because of course, as a student, we are not granted knowledge into the inner workings of the school and its employees. However, the end result of this employment debate will end in Senora leaving LVPA if we don\'t do something. This petition was created to let the education board know that others are affected by what they enforce upon our teachers. A teacher is not just a person who teaches us how to - in Senora\'s case- speak Spanish, but it is a person that genuinely cares about the student and wants them to grow and succeed in every way possible.
Why should I sign this?
If you were one of the emotional students when Senora told us about her problem, if you know of Senora and want to help her, if your Spanish education will be compromised in correlation to her abscence, if Senora has taught you some unforgettable life lessons, or even if you are in support of students having a voice, this petition may help change something.
What happens if this doesn\'t work?
My hope is, of course, that someone of influence will see this and will grasp the need we have for more teachers like Senora. If that isn\'t the case, or if there is nothing that can be done, we hope that at least Senora will understand how much we care about her. If this makes even a small difference in the way teachers are treated, then this petition has done it\'s job. Senora is a leader, and leaving will make a difference. Maybe this won\'t work, and we\'ll all be saying goodbye to Senora at the end of the 2010-2011 school year, but if we do, we will say goodbye knowing that it\'s not forever, that Senora will always be in our minds, and knowing that we did everything that we could to keep such an influential person with us as long as possible.
In closure,
SIGN! Senora is a special person to all of us, and some of us even owe her a lot more than not knowing how to speak Spanish. She told us that no one says aquilar, everyone says rentar, and if we say aquilar, we\'ll be labeled as tourists. Thank you for that life lesson -and many more- Senora. We love you!
